Mobile Subscribers Yearwise comparision

Total number of subscribers stood at 996.49 million as of March 2015, says TRAI

According to the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the total number of subscribers grew by 0.93 per cent between February and March 2015 to reach 996.49 million as of March 2015. While the number of urban subscribers declined from 578.75 million as of February 2015 to 577.18 million as of March 2015, the number of rural subscribers increased from 408.55 million to 419.31 million during the same period.

Total wireless subscriber base increased from 960.58 million as of February 2015 to 960.58 million as of March 2015. During the same period the number of wireline subscribers declined from 26.72 million to 26.59 million. Further, the number of broadband subscribers recorded an increase of 1.88 per cent, growing from 97.37 million to 99.20 million over the same period.

As of march 2015, Bharti Airtel has the maximum number of subscribers at 226.01 million, followed by Vodafone (183.80 million), Idea Cellular (157.80 million), Reliance Communications (109.47 million) and Aircel (81.39 million). The number of subscribers for state-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephoen Nigam Limited stood at 77.22 million and 3.51 million respectively.

Meanwhile, TRAI also stated that the number of mobile subscribers who have availed mobile number portability (MNP) has crossed 100 million.
